I'm going to Spain in a couple of months and picked this cuz I liked the title. I thought it would give me a flavour for the country. What I got was soooo much more!! You capture the people's identity, explain the backdrop of history and language in various regions, and gave me belly laughs to finish! Great read, my trip will be more enjoyable after reading....thanks. I even learned some Spanish!
This is an engaging, laugh out loud and informative travel read. The author gives an accessible history of Spain along with descriptive, inviting images of the different regions. His self-deprecating style makes for an easy, fun read and makes one feel like they could take on such an adventure.
Very entertaining, includes history and language tips
Rich Bradwell has written an excellent travelogue. I acquired this book to compare to my upcoming humorous memoir/novel of a wedding in Spain (Seville) and the family shenanigans that ensued (Seven Days in Spain). This book has given me wonderful information on Spain's culture and history. (Thanks for doing my research for me, Rich.) Granted, a five-minute speech at a best friend's wedding is a bit of a contrived reason to spend three months in Spain (I know how much it must have cost him), and I'm a little miffed he left his wife at home. In addition, the ending could have been a little more conclusive and fun. Nonetheless, some fun stories of encounters with the locals and insights that come with traveling to another land. I planned to skim and ended up reading the whole thing - a recommendation for sure.

Well written account of traveling around Spain to learn the language! I enjoyed especially the history the author included while traveling to different areas!
Warm, funny and informative. Added to my wonderful journey through Spain. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys learning about other cultures. Well done!
