User reviewsMy review - Edit reviewThe time of this Vol. 2 -of the three volume set- includes, from 550BCE, among others in Persia, the reigns of Cyrus the Great, Darius the Great - with his massive rock-carving/writing at Behistun, placed too high to read.___ The period ends at 330BCE and Alexander the Great..________...... Cyrus is treated in considerable detail: His tomb is examined at pg 54 as having a strongly Zoroastrian architectural finish; Then, special fire-holders at Pasargadae -pg 51 are described ______. Also this Vol. 2 is a marvel, as it relates to defining moments in the history of Judah. For example, Cyrus, in ISAIAH -chapter45 et seq.- is called -- Special to the LORD --, and Boyce provides a Zoroastrian background to that strong biblical association at pg 44 et seq--. She places the mature Zoroastrainism as background for the crystallizing religion of the royal followers of YHWH in their some 50 years of bondage in Babylon. In another example of interaction, Boyce points the reader to Second ISAIAH and his belief that Babylon would destructively and painfully fall. --ISAIAH 40-48 --. Yet Cyrus actually entered the city of Babylon with the gates wide open .._____.. In a further instance on interaction, EZRA describes how a records search was required for building the new Temple.
