Oooooh, wow. I really wish I had looked more closely at the reviews before buying this. It's an absolute, "nope."If you already are inclined towards sociopathic-type behaviors, you'll probably get a really fantastic pep talk from reading this.For the rest of us, the glib conversational nature of this book should serve as a red flag. The grandiose boasting should serve as a red flag. The "believe what I'm telling you, but everyone else is a liar and part of a conspiracy theory" should be a red flag.There's a true disconnect with the writer. He speaks in absolutes about people and the world, and wants you, the reader, to trust him as the only savior.If you still happen to want to give it a chance, I request that you still use your ability to reason; to question his words and stories objectively and decide if implementing his advice will actually "serve" you.
Chapter 19 of the book begins, "Before we move into our action plan," which is appropriate because you can literally skip the first 18(!) chapters and be no less enlightened. Will update review if said action plan materializes.If you've been to college, these first 18 chapters are an annoying diatribe about higher education that may or may not reflect your experience, and certainly doesn't change the past. If you haven't been to college, just be sure to examine the cost-effectiveness of the tuition (and interest) before going and what you expect to get out of it. It isn't "garbage" as the author would have you believe, which is a weirdly unnecessary hill to die on for the simple task of selling the reader on the concept of passive, independent income. Lighten up Francis, we bought the book for a dang reason.
This book states the obvious and I didn't learn a thing reading it.The author's brags a lot about his success online but when I looked at his youtube channel there was only about one hundred followers. Not my definition of success.
Should've read the reviews before I bought this. Full of rants on how terrible things are, which is great to open people's eyes to the truth, but that's ALL it is. At least as far as I got. After reading a number of chapters, I realized that every chapter ended with a "this problem ends now," but then the next chapter was just more ranting on more terrible stuff about the world, the government, the economy, employers, the education system, etc. NO ANSWERS! Where's the "how to escape the 9-5"?? Other reviewers have said the end of the book points the reader to the author's website where he sells products that supposedly take you further...I did not buy this to read a 400+ page infomercial for additional products. I wanted what the title promised.I gave up after a number of chapters because I just couldn't take another bait-and-switch chapter ending that just led into more ranting, no solutions. Such a disappointment -- at first the author seemed to be a no-bs guy who'd give it to you straight. Apparently not.Save your money and look elsewhere, unless you're just looking for a treatise on how awful things are.
Jonathan Green surprised me. I read a lot and try to learn as much as I can from people and he truly is a remarkable person, who has a unique perspective on life and how to beat the system and has actually done this. Heck, he's still doing it. If you're even remotely interested in breaking away from your day job, becoming financially independent and making it as an entrepreneur - DO NOT miss out on this book. Read it, listen to the audible version, whatever it takes, just as long as you get this information. I've found his book a true inspiration and fully intend to implement as much as I can in my life. This is a very inspiring book. It's not so much a nuts-and-bolts manual, but he provides a resource page. It's a great chance to see how a successful entrepreneur thinks and acts. The book also makes a strong case for minimalism and its freeing effects.
The book, tells the story of how Jonathan overcame being fired, to now running his own business from a tropical island! As I read, I found I could identify because he was fired from being a professor (which I currently am), was naturally soft-spoken, (that’s me too) and had no entrepreneurial training (they don’t teach you that in college).This isn’t just a story, although he uses his experience to teach, it is a how-to manual on following him to success. Throughout the book, he emphasizes action, since not starting is a sure path to failure. Hopefully, he will approve, since this blog was started, with his encouragement, while reading his book!He says in his book “You can become anything you want once you realize that it’s just about putting in the effortâ€. His self-proclaimed mission to help others overcome their boss and all the risks that come from a job are clearly proclaimed throughout the book.He covers topics such as networking, writing, cost control, selling, marketing, goal setting (they should be written!), motivation, failure, and more. He covers them in a conversational manner, so it seems like you are talking to a friend. I feel like he is a friend after reading this book!
